Got Pallets?

So, you’re a business that operates with large masses of products. Each day or week you’ll see pallet after pallet coming into or out of your business. Freight and transport companies see this by the minute! If this sounds all too familiar you’ll notice that it certainly begins to add up.

If you’ve been watching the pile get bigger and wondering what to do with all these excess or used pallets, we at Want It Gone have a few solutions that may help clear your physical and mental space of much unneeded clutter.

What can businesses do with old pallets?

At Want It Gone we always advocate for reusing items to their full lifecycle before attempting to dispose of them. So, if your business is using pallets for transport frequently, perhaps assess whether it’s possible to collect and reuse the pallets for delivery to or from your business. Though we understand this may add a few logistical steps to your transportation process, it can save you money in the long run on pallet supply.

Having said this, not all pallets are created equally. Some may not have a very long lifespan or you’ve used them to the full extent of their ability. Now what?

Can you recycle old pallets?

Pallets come in many shapes, sizes and materials. Standard pallets (also sometimes known as skids) are typically made from wood. Wooden pallets are convenient to recycle, depending on their prior use and condition.

There are also ways to recycle pallets made from other materials, but this can be case by case dependent. If you aren’t sure feel free to use our quick, online collection platform for an assessment. Or give us a call to discuss.

How to recycle old pallets

If you can’t reuse your old pallets you can easily give us a call at Want It Gone for us to collect them and take them to our specialised recycling facility. By using our online assessment platform we cna give you a free quote and help organise a collection system or schedule that works for your unique needs.

Once we have collected your unusable pallets, we sort them. Again, prior use and materials play a huge factor in what happens next. We decide if they can be provided to other businesses for their own use or alternatively, broken down to be recycled in other ways.

Wooden pallets can often become:

  • mulch

  • scrap wood

  • parts of new pallets

  • compost

  • or fuel for all manners of use.

The benefits of recycling old pallets

There are many benefits of recycling which we are huge advocates for at Want It Gone. Just a few great reasons to recycle your old pallets are:

  • It aligns with a safe waste management plan. Pallets, especially in bulk, can quickly become a safety hazard within workplaces.

  • Avoids rapidly filling landfills with unnecessary waste

  • Reduces the need to cut down trees. Wood isn’t necessarily a finite resource but it still takes a lot of energy to grow trees. Plus, they’re good for the planet. The fewer we chop down, the better off we are.

  • Saves raw materials. What’s the point in wasting all the time, energy and resources it takes to make all the aforementioned products when old pallets suit the need perfectly?

What next?

As previously mentioned, uploading your waste to be collected on our easy to use online platform is quick and convenient. Send us a quick photo and description and we’ll be able to quote you on collection.

We’ll agree on a time to swing by and take your unused pallets off your hands to give them a new life.
